A Peculiar End to a Tantrum
The screaming, and kicking, and wailing
of small girl and adult alike
had ceased and now the atmosphere
smelled of quiet curiosity, catlike.
For a father was telling a story
to the daughter who not long ago
had been screaming, and kicking, and wailing
so much that the neighbors had known.
The story was of his childhood;
when he was barely older than the girl
and how he sent his father's trip
to Fort Ticonderoga awhirl.
The girl's grandfather had always wanted
to visit that place near Lake Champlain
but when he finally got to,
his son and daughter only complained
The father of the girl now thought
that if opportunity knocked,

Ed Davy used to be a third baseman on the Baltimore Orioles, but now he was a retiree. You see, Ed was thirty-nine. Thirty-nine is quite an old age to be running and jumping around like a lunatic all day, isn't it? Ed thought so too. His retirement had first brought some congratulations on such a long and fruitful career, but eventually his friends decided they just had to tease him a little bit.

I am perpetually lazy. So lazy, in fact, that sometimes I don't even have the energy to procrastinate. Which, I guess, means that indirectly I am procrastinating. But still.
